School is one of the places where people spent more than half of their childhood and youth in. The education system must develop experiences or situations where students have the opportunity to acquire long lasting skills which can help them through life.
One option considered by the panel was the encouragement of competitive sports in school. This tactic could be helpful to teach students a sense of commitment and partnership. By competing more seriously not only will participants enroll with more attention but also, unite emotionally as a group. However, sports rivalry can end up in frustration and distraction. Are really sports the only option to acquire values and skills?
A second option could be to introduce offsite team building days, since a major advantage that this activity offer is the natural learning of the kids, by having fun and enjoying. Besides, the contact of students with other people will certainly develop a sense of empathy and social inclusion, which are values that not every educative system provides for candidates. Nonetheless, there are no guarantees about kids committing to community work, and under no circumstances should schools oblige them to do it.
In my view, both options are an excellent opportunity for schools to teach not only academic content but also skills which will be long lasting for students. Even Though, I still consider that including community service activities, such as team building, is a more innovating and attractive way of helping learners to experience and overcome different situations that will contribute to the natural acquisition of skills for life.
